Tom HobbsName and story approved by founder: pending

Tom Hobbs grew up in a family that has worked in engineering and the motor trade for more than 100 years. His childhood was spent around mechanics, plant fitters and racers, and in the 1970s he raced motorcycles, just as his father had.

He became a chartered mechanical engineer and built his career in manufacturing, procurement and operations. That gave him a view of tools few people get: what they should be made to, what they cost to make, and what the professional brands charge for them.

In October 2025 he started Gusto Tool Co to close that gap. Each tool is checked and signed off before it ships, and backed by a lifetime guarantee.

“When a job has to be done, the tool either works or it doesn't.”

Chapter 01

A family of engineers

Tom's family ties to engineering and the motor trade go back more than a century. Workshops and the smell of cutting oil were part of growing up, and so was the idea that a tool should earn its place on the bench.

Chapter 02

Raised in the paddock

Tom raced motorcycles in the 1970s, as his father did before him. The paddock taught him to respect the people who keep machines running, and how quickly a cheap tool lets you down when it matters.

Chapter 03

An engineer's eye

A career as a chartered mechanical engineer took Tom through manufacturing, procurement and operations, and showed him what professional tools should be made to, and what they really cost.
